Is the world a scary place? Or a blank canvas to create a life of amazing possibilities?
There are almost as many shades of these outlooks as there are people.
And at the extremes it seems that the perspective has been dictated by circumstances.
We would truly understand if a person in war torn Syria thought that the world was a scary place.
And, walking up to Sloan Kettering Hospital last week for my three year checkup post bone marrow transplant, on a 70 degree NY city morning, I felt happy and hopeful. It would be hard not to look at my life as amazing and full of open ended possibilities.
But what about the vast area in the middle of those two extremes? The area where we find ourselves the majority, if not all, our waking hours? When circumstances are not overtly bright and shiny, or overtly dark and forbidding? What then?
Are THEY “out to get us”? or does the universe “work in mysterious ways”? Or is the universe indifferent?
My answers to these questions are:
1. There is no THEY, although in certain circumstances it does seem like the odds are stacked against us and their are a lot of hurdles to overcome
3. No –
And I have proof. The sun gives us the energy needed to grow food. The food gives us the nutrients and energy to make it through our days. Our lungs convert chemicals from the air into what we need to stay alive. Some invisible programmer programmed our hearts to beat consistently for decade after decade. Not mentioning the universe loaning us gravity all this time to keep our feet on the ground, and voice boxes to communicate, and brains to evolve with. And then emotions, wow, they are helpful for knowing if our needs are being met, and speaking our truth. And then throw in love. Impossible to explain but we have all felt it, we know it exists.
The universe is anything but indifferent. It has been real busy for a long time.
Thank you, Universe.
